Swimming is by far the best exercise. Seriously, who would want to run around a track outside in the blazing heat or run on the spot at a depressed musty gym when there are so many refreshing indoor pools around Xi’an? Claim a lap lane or bring the kids and play around in the shallow end. 1) Shaanxi Swimming Center View In Map
Pretty much everyone in Xi’an knows about the Shaanxi Swimming Center (陕西游泳中心). Constructed in the late nineties, the building’s unique architecture is hard to miss, as it resembles a sailing ship. The swimming center features a national standard size pool with swimming and diving areas, as well as deep and shallow sections. As with most swimming pools in China, to help keep the facilities clean, swimmers are required to wear swimming caps at all times while in the water. The locker rooms are equipped with showers, but do not provide slippers or flip flops so make sure to pack a pair of your own!

2) No. 4 Junyi University Swimming Pool View In Map
The No. 4 Junyi University Swimming Pool (第四军医大学游泳馆) was built to impress. The facility, which is spread out over 4,577 sq. m, has men’s and women’s changing rooms and showers, “VIP” changing rooms, and a 50 x 25 m heated pool.
The pool’s water quality is good, while the chlorine is not overly strong. The locker room areas are very clean, and lockers, electronic locks and toiletries are provided. Use of the locker room requires a 100 RMB deposit that is returned with the locker key. In order to use the facilities, swimmers must show a health certificate, so be sure to get one from your doctor before coming in. The pool is cheaper for Junyi University students and costs a little more for outside swimmers.

Constructed in 1993, the City Stadium Swimming Pool (市体育场游泳馆) has been a Xi’an staple for the past two decades. The facility features a standard sized eight lane indoor swimming pool that is 1.4-1.8 m deep. The water tends to run a little on the cold side, which is a blessing during the summer but a curse in the cold winter months. As the cheapest indoor swimming pool in town, the lanes tend to get a bit crowded with at least two swimmers in each lane, so go in the early morning or late evening to beat the crowds.
