Shari Redstone—the daughter of Viacom founder Sumner Redstone—reportedly met with Alibaba founder Jack Ma to discuss a possible sale of Paramount Pictures. Sumner Redstone is currently fighting Viacom chairman Philippe Dauman for control of the company in court. Both sides are competing for a controlling stake in Viacom which represents both Sumner Redstone’s legacy and sizable personal fortune. Viacom is currently worth $14 billion and owns MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Pictures.
This last January, a psychiatrist named Dr. Stephen Read examined 92 year old Sumner Redstone and reported that the billionaire was not fit to make health care decisions for himself.
In early February, Sumner Redstone stepped down from his chairman duties at CBS and Viacom. He still maintains leadership over the companies through his control of the holding company National Amusements. On February 3, the CBS board of directors elected longtime CEO Leslie Moonves to succeed Redstone. The vote was unanimous.
