Get Soaked This Summer! Hefei Water Rafting Hot Spots

Now that the hot weather of the summer season has officially descended upon all of China, everyone is fantasising about heading off to the largest (and coolest) body of water that they can find for some necessary R&R. While many of Heifei's more adventurous residents are flocking to water rafting destinations in nearby provinces, did you know that you can actually find pretty good rafting spots right on the outskirts of Hefei? Anhui Province is full of great destinations that are sure to exceed the expectations of even the strictest of water rafting enthusiasts!

1) White Horse Pond Rafting Scenic Area (白马潭漂流景区)View In Map
White Horse Pond (Baimatan) is considered the largest and most exciting rafting area in East China.  This 5A tourist area is at the western foot of Taizhu Mountain, near the Qinghua River.  Rafting the area takes about two hours, but may take longer if you want to check out any of the over 20 different scenic areas.  You can also choose to use a regular raft or canoe.  The local farmer's specialties, such as crispy rice soup, wild mountain tea, river fish, wild tree ear mushrooms, local chicken and duck dishes are both delicious and healthy.

2) Moon Bay Rafting (月亮湾漂流)View In Map
Moon Bay (Yueliangwan) is known as Caicun Town's "premier bamboo spot", so it's no surprise that bamboo rafting is the main draw in this area.  It is also considered one of the most beautiful tourist areas south of the Yangtze River, and a famous Chinese TV drama was once shot here. Rafting the area takes about two hours (it's about 700 m in length). Since this is such a popular rafting destination, many of the local women sell handicrafts and other items around the area. As compared to the other areas listed, rafting here is pretty smooth and comfortable, so there's no need to worry about getting wet (if you don't want to).

3) Lanshuihe Scenic Area (蓝水河漂流)View In Map
Lanshuihe Scenic area is situated between Yellow Mountain (黄山) and Jiuhua Mountain (九华山) scenic areas.  The first premier of the People's Republic of China, Zhou Enlai once came here with famed founder of the People's Army, Ye Ting, for a bit of water rafting.  The bamboo rafting area is about 6 km in length, and will take about 90 minutes to complete.   Along the way, the river can get start to meander and you may encounter some thrill-inducing rapids (if you dare!): once you go through the entrance, you can drift through a dam area where you will ascend 10 meters and then drop below.  As long as you hold on to the safety rings along the raft, your ride will be safe and smooth.  The area around the river is very quiet and is therefore a place to feel carefree and relaxed.
