4) The next screen you’ll see depends on the type of train you choose. If you choose a high speed train, you’ll see a screen similar to the one pictured below; from this screen you simply need to choose the “class” of seat you want (business class, first class and second class).

If you choose a non-high speed train that travels relatively longer distances you’ll see a screen similar to the one pictured below; you need to decide if you want a seat or a berth (bed). There’s usually a “hard seat” and “soft seat (first class)”, but in this image, only hard seat is available (circled in red). The yellow options are the differing classes of beds available for this train. Obviously, the more expensive, the better the class.

5) After choosing the seat/bed and class you want, you’ll need to enter your mobile phone number (yellow circle), decide on whether you want insurance (blue circle), and enter your personal information (red circle).

6) The personal information form:

First field is your name, be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it appears in your passport (no spaces allowed). So “John Smith” would be entered as “SMITHJOHN”.

Second field is adult/children. The default is set to adult.

Third field is type of ID – you want to choose passport (shown in image)

Fourth field is passport number

Fifth field is birth date.

Sixth Field is gender/sex.

What's all the fuss??? I created a profile using my passport number and information directly on the 12306.cn train ticket website, can easily and effortlessly buy my train tickets there. Does nobody know this??? Choose your train, pay for it, then go to any station or office to pick up the paper ticket. And, yes, I can buy my tickets well in advance of national holidays, like any native Chinese person, too. I did so before SF, and have done so 3 times since.

Yet another foreigner-UNfriendly app / thing in this commie state. Amazing how in Europe and other places we are able to develop software/ lunch menus / hotel brochures in like 20 languages including chinese/ japanese / arabic etc. yet in China they are unable to provide basic services in English. Even at places like Bank of China , the best you get is Chinglish and thats only in Shanghai. I love wechat but im surprised it has a multilingual interface. Think of QQ lol

I agree with your comment 100%. Guangzhou has the largest international trade fair in the world yet there are virtually no English services. China doesn't care about the rest of the world. Pathetic, self absorbed nation.

English is an international language of business. If i go to virtually anywhere in Europe, the average person at the counter speaks at least a decent level of English. They WANT our money. So they should at least learn. Especially in the so called international hubs like Shanghai dont you think? This isnt some small backwards Sichuan village.

Also, if you re banking with BoC, try their emergency service number hotline, dial 95566. The English is practically incomprehensible. Just saying.

That's true. You will find that most of these wechat features only apply to Chinese as you need a Chinese ID card number to register. Funny how China introduces services only for their people but forget about everyone else. In Australia, we bend over backwards to accommodate the Chinese. I don't know why we bother.

Yes but your wife probably used her Chinese ID card to make the purchase.
