Fire Destroys 300 Homes in Dong Village, Guizhou
Jan 27, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A fire in an ancient Dong village in Guizhou Province has destroyed nearly 300 homes, and affected the lives of over 1000 people. The blaze started on the evening of January 25 and according to preliminary reports more than 1000 buildings were ruined before it could be put out. It is still unclear how the fire started.

The village is more than 300 years old, and one of the last remaining villages in China with occupants solely from the Dong minority group.

Earlier this month, much of Shangri La’s old town in Yunnan was destroyed by a fire that had been caused by a faulty heater. A sad month for cultural heritage in China.
