Chinese companies are well-represented in MIT Technology Review’s 50 Smartest Companies. Forbes reported on Tuesday that Chinese companies are getting smarter and leaving Japanese and Korean companies behind.
Baidu was ranked number two on the list, while Huawei was ranked tenth. In 2014, no Chinese companies were included on the list.
Baidu and Huawei have both committed themselves to innovation. Baidu is developing a self-driving car with the support of an R&D team based in California. Huawei is the third largest smartphone company in the world with a good hold on both the high-end and low-end smartphone markets.
A Forbes analyst pointed out that that the rise of Chinese companies in the rankings is an important indicator of the country’s overall national development.
Chinese companies were also included in Fast Company’s 2015 World’s Top 50 Most Innovative Companies. Alibaba was ranked third on the list behind Apple and Google.
Forbes pointed out that MIT’s rankings are only an analyses and may not reflect reality. In 2015, Apple was number 16 on the list, but was not included this year.
