As one of the largest cities in northeast China, Harbin enjoys excellent transportation links to and from the city. What's more, Harbin is also one of China's gateways into Siberia, Russia and northeast Asia, making it an invaluable "hinge" for onward traveling.
Taiping International Airport in Harbin is the second largest in northeastern China, with 18 airlines operating 84 routes, 23 of which are international. Several large train-lines also run through Harbin, which has two train stations from where visitors can access cities across China, and also into Russia.
The two largest highways running through Harbin are the 102 which connects Harbin to Beijing, and 202 which leads to Dalian. There are many other highways though: Harbin can be reached easily by road from most major destinations.
Harbin is located in the middle reaches of Songhua River and has the largest freshwater port in northeast China. Travelers can use the waterway network to reach Russia and Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.
