The new highly anticipated Hercules movie, released on October 21, is proving to be highly popular in China, due to its credentials as a bona-fide 3D movie.
The movie was originally filmed and developed in 3D as opposed to being filmed in 2D and then converted, a point which director Brett Ratner is eager to emphasise; “"Please see the movie on the biggest 3D screen possible because the movie was designed like that...Unfortunately, some Hollywood movies were made in 2D and transferred into 3D just for Chinese audiences. I think that's wrong."
Several Hollywood movies have been rendered into 3D only in China to cater to the Chinese appetite for multi-dimensional cinema, Lucy, featuring Scarlett Johannsen being a prime example, and it seems to be a solid investment- in the past 7 years the number of 3D cinemas in the mainland have gone from 82 to over 10,000.
