On July 1, Qingdao encountered its first case of a foreigner overstaying his permitted time in China under the new visa laws. The incident occurred when a foreigner was going through customs to get on the KA951 flight to Hong Kong.
A Singaporean surnamed Wang recently visited China on business, and according to Chinese visa regulations for citizens of Singapore, was able to stay in China for 15 days without a visa. However, when he was about to board the Hong Kong bound flight on July 1, he had overstayed his time by one day.
In accordance with paragraph one of article 78 of immigration regulations, Wang had to pay a fine of 500 RMB before he was allowed to leave.
