Guanqian Pedestrian Shopping Street 观前街步行街
Cenetered around Guanqian Street's Temple of Secrets are many of Suzhou's longest-standing shops and markets, some of which date back nearly 150 years. Of particular interest are the Daoxiangcun Confectioners, Qiantaixiang Silk Shop and Huangtianyuan Dumpling shop, which employ age-old techniques to produce their wares.
Shilu Pedestrian Shopping Street 石路步行街
"Shilu" is Mandarin for "Stone Street", so called because modern Shilu's asphalt and cement walkways were once paved with sightly stones. In late 2003, the Suzhou municipal government sunk a huge amount of money into Shilu's reconstruction, and it has now become a prosperous shopping district. The cafes, pubs, markets and boutiques along Stone Street stay open until 10:00PM, making this an excellent destination for evening browsing.
Shiquan Street 十全街商业街
Located in this downtown entertainment hideaway are Nanlin Restaurant, Suzhou Restaurant and the Nanlin Hotel, as well as the infamous Garden of the Master of the Nets, where every evening for RMB60/person, guests can stroll from cove to flowery cove to watch any of the musical and theater performances taking place all around the enclosure. This is also the place to come for Suzhou handicrafts and a substantial cross-section of Chinese cuisine restaurants.
