Taiyuan is the hub of transportation for the Shanxi Province, easily reached by air, rail and road. The rail system, originally used extensively by the city's coal industry, is extremely popular with both locals and visitors. It is the starting point of many lines, including the Taiyuan-Jiaozhou line, the Beijing-Taiyuan and the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan lines.
