iPhone’s Market Share in China Overtaken by Huawei
Aug 12, 2016 By eChinacities.com

According to news reports, market research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech (KWC) released a report today that in the Second Quarter of this year, iOS’s market share in China dipped to 17.9% while it gained share in the US and Europe markets, 31.8% and 18.2% respectively.

It should be noted that the iOS and Android platforms compared in the KWC report are exclusively that of mobile phone devices and excluded tablet computers and other products. Thus iOS market share compared in the report is essentially the share of Apple’s iPhone.

While iOS gained market share in five countries including the US and those in Europe, Apple’s share in China took a hit of 1.8 points, slipping from 19.7% to 17.9% when compared with the same quarter last year. Comparably, domestic phone makers Huawei and Xiaomi gained share, reaching 25.7% and 18.5% respectively.

KWC Strategy and Analysis Director Tamsin Timpson further reported that while iPhone 6s and 6s Plus continued to enjoy strong sales in China, Huawei’s Mate 8 and P9, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Xiaomi 5 as well as Oppo R7 have been upping the pressure on Apple. Due to continued shortage of the iPhone SE in the Chinese market, Timpson noted that market grab for the latest iPhone sits at a meager 2.5% in the Second Quarter.
