Football Frenzy: The UEFA Euro 2012 Hits the Bars of Beijing

It's time to break out the face paint, national flags and Heineken; the colourful boisterous circus of the UEFA football championships is upon us. The games will run from June 9-July 2 and Beijing bars are gearing up for the competition with drink deals and projection screens. The games will be televised at different bars around Beijing, but of course not all parties are created equally. Here are is a line-up of Euro Cup standouts amongst the many bars of Beijing. 1) Paddy O'Shea's View In Map
One of the most famous sports bars in Beijing (voted Beijing's Best Sports Bar five years in a row), Paddy O'Shea's will definitely be packed on game nights. The bar plans to screen every single game of the Euro Cup despite the crazy middle of the night start times. They will have beer bucket deals during games so you won't miss a second while waiting in bar lines. Overall, it'll be a month-long party at the Irish bar.

2) Pubcrawl BeijingView In Map

3) The Stumble InnView In Map
The Stumble Inn, a long-time sports fan favourite, also plans to broadcast every Euro Cup game. No special deals have been announced for the Euro Cup, but the bar has great deals every week. On Thursdays partiers get free random shots throughout the night and Fridays come with drink deals like 15 RMB Tiger Beer and 10 RMB Harbins.

4) CujuView In Map
The newest sports bar on the Beijing scene, Cuju was opened recently by blogger Badr Benjelloun of BeijingDaze and the Noodle Diaries fame. Tucked in a quiet hutong not far from Beixinqiao subway station, the bar has Brooklyn Lager, San Miguel, Estrella and Red Seal on tap as well as what is most probably Beijing's largest whiskey selection. Not only is this quaint bar equipped with enough booze to satisfy most alcoholic cravings, but the big screen will be airing all the Euro Cup matches, so head over to this new bar and enjoy the games.

5) The DenView In Map
The Den is a good bet to watch the games because it is open 24 hours and a go-to bar for any kind of sporting event. There are daily Happy Hour deals (17:00-22:00), a decent beer selection including Australian brews, pizza and other bar delicacies. If you don't want to leave after the game, you don't have to! Stay until the next day and have breakfast.

6) Frank's PlaceView In Map
The oldest sports bar in Beijing will also be showing Euro Cup games on the bar's many plasma TVs. The ever-popular pub has an extensive beer and food menu that will keep any football fan satisfied and happy.

7) Brussels Restaurant and BarView In Map
Brussels, the two-storied bar and restaurant in Sanlitun, will also a have a projection screen. The bar boasts specials including all-you-can-eat mussels for 100 RMB or three Belgium beers for 100 RMB. Come at night for the lively atmosphere if you want to watch the game and enjoy delicious imported Belgium beer (about 40 RMB each).

Honorary Mentions

Lantern Club
The underground dance club backed by Acupuncture record label features the newest in electronic music, a large dance floor and quality cocktails. Lantern Club plans on projecting Euro Cup Games backed by their DJs so partiers can dance and watch the games at the same time. How's that for multitasking!

Haze
A dance club that has the same Euro Cup plan as Lantern Club. The creators of the underground dance venue White Rabbit do it right with Haze. The large dance floor is packed with partiers dancing to electronic and house music. Just be careful celebrating on the notoriously steep spiral staircase when your favorite team scores a goal.

One of the coolest music spots in Beijing, 2Kolegas gets a mention because it will be screening major games on a huge projection screen on Beijing's largest outdoor bar lawn. Chill out, drink up, watch the games, and of course, eat chuanr. Check their website (www.2kolegas.com) for updates on which games will be screened.

It'll be hard to avoid running into a Euro Cup party while out at the bars this month in Beijing. With so many options, it's lucky that the games run until July. The starting times for the football games are 0:00 and 2:45 with the quarterfinals and finals at 2:45, a perfect start way to start the night, end the night or spend the night.
