Fusion food is a type of cuisine that combines elements of various different culinary traditions. Asian fusion restaurants are especially popular around the Western world, and they are picking up popularity in Beijing at the moment too. Fusion restaurants can be a great way to discover new types of foods, as well as experiment with cuisines that you haven’t tried before. Here are our picks of some fusion cuisine restaurants to try around the city.

1) Beijing’s newest addition; Palms LA Kitchen and BarView In Map
The city’s fusion hype’s newest addition, much talked about throughout the expat community, is Palms LA Kitchen. Palms LA Kitchen and Bar is the first in Beijing to serve Mexican and Korean fusion food. From the House Special Kimchi Quesadilla to Baked Bibimbap, this restaurant promises to delight taste buds with an explosion of flavors. The restaurant also boasts a great drinks menu.

2) Hatsune View In Map
The ever-popular and award-winning Japanese restaurant Hatsune has a great array of fusion inspired sushi rolls on the menu. Other than sushi, it also serves a lot of other food, with surroundings perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or a business meal. The Sanlitun branch has two sushi bars as well as an outdoor terrace. Book ahead as this branch is always packed in the evening.

3) Scene a CaféView In Map
This is an Asian and Western fusion café in the China World Hotel, with an open kitchen buffet offering eight different stations. There is also an a la carte menu available for those who are not a fan of the buffet option.

4) Drum and Gong Fusion RestaurantView In Map
This popular spot is generally packed with tourists and locals as it mixes the different flavours that both groups enjoy. The dishes range from cheese-inspired fusion dishes to eggplant cooked in a delicious orange sauce.

5) Greyhound CaféView In Map
Greyhound Café serves Thai fusion food – describing itself as ‘Thai with a twist’. Many of the dishes definitely have a strong Thai influence and the café is part of a 20-year old chain that started off in Bangkok. Dishes at the café range from variations on pad Thai to tiger prawns and chicken wings. They also serve a selection of fusion desserts including a creamy coconut cake and crepes stuffed with exotic fruit.
