Thieving Rats are Put on Public Display, and Made an Example of for Other Rats
Nov 26, 2013 By eChinacities.com

On the afternoon of November 22, the Weibo account named “Safety of Shuangliu” belonging to the Public Security Bureau of Shuangliu published a post that showed a picture with three rats tied to a tree for “public display,” but apparently netizens have found their innocent little faces adorable.

The rats were caught by an employee of a Shuangliu advertising firm and had given this explanation: “Because these rats have often stolen food from the store as well as chewing through and disrupting the video feed to the security cameras guarding the store, we want to make an example out of them, and remind everyone to be on guard against the affliction of rats.”

As understood, these rats have “done bad deeds,” been caged, sent to the countryside and handed over to “Constable Black Cat” – which happens to be a black cat.

Aww, poor rats. They definitely don't look like wild rats.

People found their innocent little faces adorable? In another article I just read it takes a foreigner to concern himself with stray dogs and cats. But rats are adorable. Come on. They are little thieves and a threat to public health and should be chopped up to cat- and dogfood for the aforementioned foreigner's babies. What's more, the little bastards were well aware what they were doing wasn't legal at all, why else gnaw through the wires of the security camera? So yes, set an example, the other rats will think twice when they see what the consequences are...

This may be the stupidest thing I've read in a long time. Do you really think RATS have any notion of what LEGAL behavior is / isn't? Please tell me this is a joke.

Holy smoke, of course it was a joke. In fact I was as disgusted as you were by this cruelty and the idiot who tried to justify it by saying 'we want to make an example out of them'. If I assume the whole story is true, that is, and I'm not convinced at all. The rats look too good (store bought, someone says, which may explain that) and the note is in traditional Chinese, whereas Shuangliu is in Sichuan province. Either way, I don't like it at all.

Another disgusting display of cruelty to animals. The rats were trying to eat. Now they're being used as a sickening, pathetic entertainment ploy, tied to a pole with rope no less. I'll say it again: Humans Suck!
