On Tuesday, Shanghai, Guangdong and Beijing confirmed that returnees or visitors coming to China from countries such as South Korea, Japan, Iran and Italy would be required to undergo 14 days of isolation, either at home or at an approved facility.

The news comes after at least 13 people who returned to China from either Iran or Italy tested positive for the virus in recent days.

A 31-year-old woman who returned to Qingtian County, Zhejiang province, after working in a restaurant in the Italian city of Bergamo was found to be infected. Seven other people, who also worked in the same restaurant before returning home, also  subsequently fell sick Zhejiang.

Officials from Qiantian County have urged other overseas residents to reconsider returning home.

Italy and Iran have seen the highest number of coronavirus cases outside of Asia, while South Korea and Japan have the highest rate of infections within Asia but outside of China.
